1:)The Wire

No Country for Old Men
Mysterious skin
The Beat My Heart Skipped
Cach'e
(doesn't really matter, my favorite movies mostly depend on the mood im in that day)
And the reason I said The Wire was the best, is because its my opinion. The reason I said its the most important, is because it is the only show I have ever seen that strives to be as authentic as possible. Whether it be brining retired gangsters on the set to ask them if the scene is authentic enough and if not how can it become better? Or how they had Colvin(Bunny-based on a real political figure) go rogue with his entire distric and completely ignore all non-violent drug tansactions to cut down the violence. Woukd something like this work in real life? Why not try it?
It depicts everything from the hopper's on the corner, to the junkies, to the police, to the under-funded schools to the journalists, to the politicains ect. And its all depicted in a realistic way. Some politicians come into office with good intentions(as is with real life) and then once in office, deviate from actually trying to help to getting completely lost in how to get re-elected or even elected to a higher position in government. So, absolutely nothing changes, just like real life.
Then you have the journalists. Just like real journalists their ambitions are to get on the front page Guitierreze(journalist) gets a story about a home invasion along with a triple homicde and only got a small piece on the page for her article. The reaosn being is because of "who" the victums were and "where" they lived. Basically saying life and death and crime in news IS somewhat discriminate, which is sometimes true and pretty sick.
Police aren't like "other" shows where they CARE SO VERY MUCH about "justice" ,but a bunch of drunks that treat their work exactly like you'd feel a cop would treat it:like a job. They want to say they won, they don't sit and contemplate how "evil"these gangsters must be. A good example is when McNulty says:Marlo's an a$$h*le he does not get to win, we get to win!" And McNulty care the most, more than the other cops. Is Marlo evil, sinister? No, he's just an a-hole, and the cops want to get him to satisfy their own ego's. But are for the most part unable to do REAL police work because politicians keep interfering. Why. Because they want to get re-elected, which mean when it comes to crime, murders ect. The numbers are NEVER clean. And the more police work is done to clean up the streets, the more the public feels crime is/was on the rise when this Mayor or that Mayor was in charge. Which causes most of the politicians to call a halt to all the investigations that actually matter.
I could go on and on. But unlike Dexter, Sopranos, Lost or whatever. This show matters. The others are just entertainment. The wire is a combination of entertainment while addressing many issues and questioning alot of whats going on in the real world, thus, it is most important
Look, its so hard to go into great detail about why the Wire is such an important show to watch for Americans who want to understand poverty, why the schools systems are so bad, why police can't do their job, why politicians are so usless to everyone but themselves, corruption in journalism and so on and so on and so on.
A fat man who runs a crime family and feeds ducks in his pool pieces of bread is entertaining sure. But at the end of the day it doesn't matter, its stictly entertaining, where The Wire can actually give you deeper perspective(not all, but deeper) about what in the hell is happening in these impoverished city's of the U.S. And to me, that matters, apparently not to many others.

You know, for two posters that don't agree on a whole lot of things MMA, we sure do dig some of the same cinema lol (n0 h0m0 lol).
Top 5 series
1. 'The Wire' (HBO) best series ever period.
2. 'Geneartion Kill' (HBO) they only did one season, but this show is pure awesome, especially if you've been in the military. Same guys that did the 'Wire' made this series BTW.
3. 'Breaking Bad' (AMC) first season is unbeleivable, second is not bad, very unique though.
4. 'Band Of Brothers' (HBO) Can you tell I like HBO lol? Another great series, I'm really looking forward to the next one that HBO is doing about the Pacific.
5. 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force' (Cartoon Network, Adult Swim) I love the one-liners and simple but effective humor of this show lol.
Honorable mention:
'True Blood' (HBO) I know, I know, you think 'chick show' when you hear the word 'Vampire's' lol. But this show is pretty awesome in its own right. Very dark humor, and a very explicit show. Another show that suffered a bit in its 'second' season. But I still like it.
'Sons Of Anarchy' (FX) This show is a bit on the cheezy side. But its kind of a guilty pleasure like 'True Blood' is to me. Not the best shows, but they are entertaining none the less.
Top 5 movies:
This list usually changes from time to time lol, but not my number 1
1. 'Fight Club' LOVE the message behind this movie, and its ironic dark humor as well.
2. 'No Country For Old Men' I think SugarRayJoe put it best in another thread when he labels this as perhaps 'the most flawless movie ever made'. I couldn't agree more.
3. 'Snatch'
4. 'Jackie Brown' Most people will either reach for the 'Reservoir Dogs' or 'Pulp Fiction' movies when selecting Tarantino flicks (and they are amazing films BTW). But I absolutely LOVE 'JB'. Great story, great dialogue and the 'DelPhonic's'!!! You can't go wrong with that combo. IMO, Quentins most flawlessly executed film to date.
5. 'SLC Punk' If you've never seen this movie, I urge you to check it out. Very good story line. Great characters and great acting in this one. Its just a pretty entertaining story in general and not a movie that requires much disection.
I would do an in depth honarable mention, but that'd take years for me lol.
'Life' : Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence are awesome in this movie. And it has an awesome storyline too. Its one of the most underrated films I can think of. Its one of those movies I can watch over and over again and still like.
'Oh Brother Where Art Thou' : This movie gets more love than Life (probably because of the Coen Bros.) but its very similar in alot of ways to 'Life' and equaly good.
'Lock Stock And 2 Smoking Barrells' : Awesome movie, check it out if you haven't seen it.
Gladiator, Braveheart, Troy, Saving Private Ryan, Casino, Good Fellas, Menace To Society, American Beauty, American History X, Freeway (great movie), Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Event Horizon... I could go on and on lol.
